Hey folks, hope you’re all keeping well! Apologies for no blog last week, with the Bank Holiday and the fact that my training has been quite boring and limited the last few weeks didn’t want to bore anyone with the same old blog 😉
No training recap this week as in the same boat really regarding the knee issue I’ve been dealing with. Its definitely improving but slowly and just need to keep being patient and trust that things will work itself out if I keep on top of the rehab and prevention work. All the runs over the last 2 weeks have been 30 to 40 mins or so @ 7.30 – 8.00 mile pace. Probably ran 5 out of 7 days but holding back if I feel I need to. Hard sometimes to retain that patience and confidence but sometimes in these situations you have a choice whether to be positive or negative and I know if I chose the negative route it will just leave me in bad form and serves no good so just going to remain positive. The funny thing is my fitness is actually not that bad. I did 1 mini session in the last 2 weeks, it was essentially a 3 mile progression after a 2 easy miles and basically got faster each mile down to 5.30 or so and it felt fairly effortless breathing wise so taking the positives from that.
We always hear the phrase being thrown about that “What’s mean to be will be” and in a way I think this is true but I got an example of this last week. So as many know races are starting to open entries with the St Cocoas 5k Race in Kilcock on Friday the 25th June being an example of this. Entries opened at 6pm last Friday and had a feeling entries would go instantly due to lesser number being allowed to race and demand for races being crazy at the moment (it’s like trying to get a ticket for a gig or a big match 😉) I had informed a couple of the runners I coach to be on the ball regarding entering it and I had convinced myself to enter it also as it will give me something to build towards in the next 2 weeks and give me some focus. Low and behold at 6pm completely forgot to enter and had a message from my brother at 6.10 to say did you get an entry ☹ So tried then but the 200 spaces went instantly gone. Actually Paul my brother is the only person I know of that got an entry. Moral of the story is, I wouldn’t of been ready to race in 2 weeks time however I still wanted to and maybe it takes something like this to intervene and prevent you from causing further damage! Although I was incredibly frustrated after a few mins realised that was meant to happen. A lovely bit of divine intervention at play 😉
Had a really great weekend, myself and my girlfriend went down to her home house in Clare for a few days and got to jump into the Wild Atlantic at Spanish Point early Saturday morning to help clear out the too many whiskeys consumed the night before. The dip was so refreshing absolutely loved it and I’m making this a staple of my week to go for a sea swim at least once a week moving forward as its something I never regret doing, just need to make myself do it. Nice night in a hotel Saturday on the way back up to Dublin which allowed us to get back to some sort of normality and feeling recharged and motivated for the week ahead 😊

Two of the runners I coach ran races on Saturday morning! Yes actual real RACES!!!! The joy in their messages saying that they’d actually ran a real race left me buzzing and with races starting to open back up I’d suggest keeping an eye on the below sites for race entries www.myrunresults.com and www.popupraces.ie. There are many other sites but these tend to be my go to sites for races!
I sill have some Online Coaching spaces available so if you’re looking to improve your times and bring a bit more structure to your training and especially those looking at running marathons in the Autumn get in touch @ noelcarrollrunning@gmail.com and we can put together a plan 😊
Have a great week folks!
Noel
