Step by Step

Noel

I mentioned last week how I was easing back into the swing of things and continued in that vein throughout last week. Think the main thing I found difficult was holding back on some of the runs. By Wednesday I started to feel comfortable enough on each run and there is that temptation to pick it up and push yourself that bit further but its important to be mature and confident enough to say that the faster stuff will come and its vital to take it step by step. I think most of us are guilty of skipping steps along the way instead of taking it step by step and sticking to the process of building back up. To be honest the atrocious weather conditions towards the end of last were probably a blessing in disguise as it forced me to hold back and really its exactly what I needed!

RECAP OF LAST WEEK:

Monday: 5.01 miles – 37.01 7.23avg

Tuesday: 5.01 miles – 37.04 7.24avg

Wednesday: 6miles – 44.49 7.28avg

Thursday: 7.01 miles – 50.28 7.12avg

Friday: 8 miles – 57.32 7.12avg

Saturday: 10 miles – 72.30 7.14avg

Sunday: REST DAY

Wanted to give a shout out to Dara Clifford in DC Fitness Physio for really getting me back on track over the last few weeks and basically calming me down in relation to the injuries I’ve been having. It helps that Dara is a really good runner in his own right and is able to look at issues from a runners perspective!

Plan for the coming week is to just continue ramping things up slowly and plan to include a short tempo session to get the legs turning over at a bit of a faster pace. Miles will slightly increase also but nothing too dramatic. Really for me I just want a few months of consistency to be in a place to race strongly later in the year. I had a look back at the Goals I set for myself at the start of this year which you can see below:

I believe these are all still attainable, but I asked myself what can I do now to make them attainable and I noted that I need to do the following:

· Focus on what I can do now

· Complete consistent weeks back to back

· Enjoy my running

· Focus on mobility, flexibility & strength work

· Don’t be so critical on myself if I encounter a setback

· Meditate more

So going to be more conscious of ensuring I complete the above but I think the main point I noted down was: “Enjoy my running” I think the last week or so easing back into things even though paces weren’t anything significant allowed me to think how much I enjoyed just getting out there and getting a run in and how much I miss it when I can’t. I think going back and looking at the goals you set for yourself is a worthwhile exercise. It allows you to check if you have fallen off track and then you can implement what you need to implement but also if your on track or ahead of schedule it allows you to be confident in what you’ve done and take great satisfaction from that so I’d encourage everyone to do this!

Cheers for reading! Have a great week folks and make sure your not bypassing any steps and focus on what you can do now 😊
