Hello folks, I’ll start off with my usual spiel about having another positive week which has thankfully been the case again 😊 Felt a wee bit like I’m back to my normal self but know there’s a long way to go to get back to a decent level of training but feeling like I’m finally starting to make inroads and that my fitness is actually not in that bad of a place and also more importantly really really enjoying my running at the moment. I have loads of goals I want to achieve but I find if you don’t lose the focus on enjoying your running the goals and everything else will come anyway!
Weekly Recap:
Monday: 6 miles – 44.29
Tuesday: 7 miles – 50.58 & Physio Session
Wednesday: 5 miles - 38.12
Thursday: 6.12 miles - 47.56
Friday: 6 miles Progression Run – 36.56
Saturday: 10 miles -73.39
Sunday: Rest Day
So starting to look like a proper weekly recap again. Nothing where I want or need to be but that will come. Not going to skip any steps on the ladder, have done it too many times to know that its not worth it in the long run and only comes back to bite you eventually anyway. Really happy with the progression run on Friday, the plan was to increase the pace each mile before easing back off for the last mile resulting in the following mile splits:
· 6.59
· 6.19
· 5.55
· 5.48
· 5.28
· 6.25
Probably got carried away on the 5th mile but felt good at that pace and frankly got a bit of a hop when I saw the 5.28 split coming up on the watch. Also had intended to run the last mile a bit slower but felt easy at that pace after the faster miles! So really positive session and knee felt ok during it which was the main thing 😊 Been really trying to focus on recovery at the moment. On top of regular visits with Dara in DC Fitness Physio I have been trying to get out to the sea and get some water recovery in. Decided to drive out to Seapoint Thursday morning get my run in along the coast then hop straight into the sea afterwards. Going to try and do more of this moving forward. Hopped into Greaghlone Lake in Shercock yesterday and although not as cold as hopping into the Irish Sea definitely helped recovered the legs from the previous 2 days training!
Was great to head to Kilcock Friday night and witness some actual racing at the St Cocoas 5k road race 😊 The buzz around the start and finish line was unreal and although I would of loved to race myself, to witness the elation and pain on everybody’s faces as they crossed the finish line left me absolutely buzzing! Paul Carroll as per usual ran a PB with a 17.01 clocking which is a 14 second personal best. Although he would of loved a Sub 17 clocking it was a great run in his first race since last September and he’ll be going after a Sub 17 clocking in the next few weeks!
I know a lot of people reading this would have been glued to the Dublin Marathon Social media channels last Friday morning to see if this years Dublin Marathon would be going ahead or not. The organisers have stated they are waiting till the 15th of July to make their decision which to me shows that they are doing their very best to try and make sure the event goes ahead so in that regard I would give them massive kudos for doing all they can to try and ensure the race goes ahead. I did notice some shall I say negative comments on their Social medial pages which is not nice to see, remember the Dublin Marathon organisers are made up of volunteers and they more than anyone will want this to go ahead. Fingers crossed for a positive announcement on the 15th of July 😊
For myself plan to increase things ever so slightly and just keep progressing things over the next week or so. Have a great week folks and thanks for reading 😊
Cheers,
Noel
