Really positive week of training last week. Feel like I’m starting to string decent weeks back to back which is exactly what I want and I suppose need to be doing. Not exactly where I want to be in terms of both quality and volume but starting to get there and just want to continue making progress week on week!

On Tuesday I incorporated some 20 secs strides into my run. Find this really good for speed and power activation, plan to include something like this each week moving forward! I mentioned last week that I haven’t done much at paces faster than 5.30 miling in quite a while and wanted to include something this week at a bit faster than that without going overboard so thought 3 x 6 mins reps would suffice in that regard. The 90 seconds recovery makes this almost feel like a typical tempo session as your not getting much recovery but was pleasantly surprised to see paces between 5.15 – 5.20 for all three 6 min reps so really positive and pleasing to see. Having said all that its only 18 mins of harder effort so will need to increase this but I find if you introduce too much too soon you’ve nowhere to go and its better to start at a lower point and do that effectively then progress things forward! Final run of the week was definitely the most enjoyable. Had got up early for Darkness into Light, had though about doing the 11 miles straight away then but my eyes weren’t open fully to run 11 miles at that point so waited till later on to tackle it. Again volume on this run is not anything to write home about but will build on this week on week. Class seeing so many groups in Phoenix Park working hard during their long runs or Saturday morning sessions 😊
I titled this weeks Blog “Patience” and the reason being 1. Its hard to come up with Blog Titles each week and 2. I’ve had to have a lot of patience over the last few months to get back to a decent level of training due to various injury issues. I think patience is a really underrated and undervalued characteristic of a runner or probably any sportsperson for that matter. All of us want results straight away and it doesn’t work like that, it takes consistent work over a long period of time. This patience is tested most when you encounter various setbacks and its something you have to learn to deal with and take the positives from and use them as lessons learned. When you do start achieving the goals you set out its usually not the end result that gives the greatest satisfaction but the journey to that point and the various obstacles you’ve had to overcome!
Hasn’t been just a positive week or so for me, over the last few week a number of my runners have smashed Time Trials from 5k to Half Marathons which is brilliant to see and gives me great satisfaction. With the prospect of races returning over the Summer months and please god Marathons in the Autumn if you have any goals you want to achieve and want a bit of accountability and structure to your training contact me @ noelcarrollrunning@gmail.com
Cheers for reading and have a great week folks 😊
