Hello folks! Not a great week of training to report on unfortunately. Managed 3 runs and 1 short session on the Turbo Trainer. This wasn’t by design and was ultimately down to a number of factors which I’ll dive into.
So I mentioned last week that I was dealing with what I thought was inflammation on the tibialis posterior tendon. Got my physio Dara to check it out and he reckons the tibialis posterior is strained. This could be down to a number of reasons with load and intensity likely to be the root cause which is frustrating as I’ve been trying to manage this reasonably well and thought I had struck a good balance. I’m going to have to be conscious of not going too mad on both volume and intensity for the time being.
Another factor for the lack of exercise this week is down to getting my 2nd Covid Vaccine. Got the vaccine on Wednesday around midday and the next 48 hours I was more or less bed ridden. I seemed to get quite an adverse reaction to it, my girlfriend got her dose more or less the same time as me and was completely fine after it but it completely knocked me for 6, but these things happen and actually may have worked in my favour to allow for the tib post strain to settle further. By Saturday started to come around and managed a 25 min stint on the Turbo trainer and got in just under 6 miles yesterday and started to feel like my normal self again thank christ 😊
So I mentioned the Turbo Trainer above. My training levels at the moment with just running alone and to be more specific what my body is allowing me to run without flare ups is not enough and I’m not going to be running anywhere near where I want to be if this continues. So I’ve decided to use sessions on Turbo Trainer to top up my fitness and ultimately add to it. In the past sessions on the Turbo Trainer have not been something I’ve enjoyed too much but I’m going to embrace it this time and use it as a tool to boost my fitness further (we’ll see how long this positive outlook lasts for 😉).
Where does this leave me with regards to the Belfast Marathon which is just under 8 weeks away? To be honest I don’t know. If I don’t start getting in the long runs and sessions I need to run a marathon I might have to make a difficult decision. However won’t be making any rash decisions yet and a lot can change in a week so lets see where I’m at this time next week!
Bit of a negative Blog this week so wanted finish off on a positive note and give some kudos to 3 of my runners who had excellent runs in the Kilbeggan 10 mile yesterday. Paul Carroll running 59.12, Dara Clifford running 63.16 and David Smith running 65.14. The three lads are in heavy marathon training at the moment so these were great efforts. The 3 are a joy to work with and coach and definitely lifted me yesterday after feeling quite sorry for myself all week 😉
