I wrote in the first paragraph of last weeks blog the following sentence when talking about a positive week of training:
“However not going to get too carried away with it. Have learned over the years never too get too excited about an unbelievable training session or week and in the same vein never to get too annoyed with a bad session or training week. Its all relative and one week or training session doesn’t make or break you!”
And as you can see by the weekly recap below not overeacting to a week of training is something I definitely need to keep in mind at the moment however stating and actually applying this logic is a different story altogether!
Weekly Recap:
Monday: Rest Day
Tuesday: 8 miles – 56.40 with 15 x 30 secs on 30 secs off during the run
Wednesday: 5 miles – 39.43
Thursday: Rest Day
Friday: Rest Day
Saturday: 4 miles – 29.36
Sunday: 4 miles – 30.39
I don’t count weekly mileage totals but only 21 miles for the week is not a great return. So what happened? So myself and my girlfriend were away for a few days in Clifden. Had planned to continue my training as normal and get in what I can. Tuesday headed out for one of the most scenic runs I’ve ever completed on the Clifden Doneen Greenway. As you can see from the Cover photo of this blog the back ground is simply stunning! Tuesdays run was probably the most enjoyable run I’ve done in a long time, threw in some 30 second efforts after about 5 miles nothing too taxing but the greenway itself is quite undulating so made for a decent effort. Was buzzing after it as you can see by the image below of me enjoying a Guinness shortly after it 😉 Went for an easy run the next morning and straight away my tibialis posterior tendon felt quite tight and a bit tender, essentially I think its inflamed. Have had this issue a few times and can be a difficult niggle to manage. In truth should of probably just stopped the run from the outset on Wednesday but managed 5 miles and didn’t feel great after. As I said have had this issue before and generally the fix is to reduce both the volume and intensity which I did. Got in 2 runs of 4 miles over the last 2 days and its definitely improved but probably need to keep things low on both the volume and intensity scale. In with Dara my physio on Wednesday so will see what he reckons and go from there!
So have to say a bit frustrated however I’ve got over this issue really quickly in the past when I’ve managed it well. I’ve 9 weeks to go to Belfast Marathon and to be fair I was pretty convinced it wasn’t to go all plain sailing anyway so need to manage this get over it and then move forward, it won’t make or break my marathon performance unless I allow it to myself. The joys of marathon training eh! I often find getting to the start line of a marathon is the real battle and without sounding too corny it’s a battle I definitely intend to win 😊 I probably sound all doom and gloomy but had a really great week down west so its not all negative!
Cheers for reading folks and have a great week 😊
