Really solid week of training in the bank and definitely an improvement on last week. Body for the most part felt good and starting to feel fitness improve which is about time to be honest!

2 main runs last week which were Tuesdays Tempo and 13 mile long run on Sunday. Averaged 5.31 mile pace for the Tempo and felt as though I could of held this for another 2 miles but didn’t want to get too greedy. Had planned to run a bit faster during long run yesterday but my calf felt tight starting off and didn’t want to tweak anything so kept it in or around 7.00 minute pace. For me at the moment need to make sure I’m getting the volume up especially during the longer stuff, so not too overly fussed about the pace on runs like this just yet!
So as you can probably tell from the title of this Blog I am getting ready for the Belfast Marathon on the 3rd of October. Had hoped to run Dublin but with that getting cancelled decided to use my back up option which was Belfast. To be honest I could have done with the extra 3 weeks timewise if Dublin had of gone ahead and with Belfast happening 12 weeks from yesterday it means I’m probably in a bit of a battle against time to be ready for it. However with marathon training I think there will never be such a thing as perfect preparation and often I find it might be better to go in slightly undercooked than overcooked! I will really have to focus for the next 12 weeks and make sure I get my long runs up and ensure I hit some key sessions. The next few weeks I still need to be conscious of not doing too much too soon which might cause some injury flare ups! I plan to use the Blog each week to show what my marathon preparation and training entails!
For those who are disappointed with Dublin Marathon not going ahead, remember there are plenty of other marathons and events taking place. For instance, a number of my clients are getting ready for the following marathons at the beginning of October:
· Belfast
· Galway
· Manchester
· London
So just because Dublin is not going ahead it doesn’t mean you can’t set yourself the challenge of running a marathon this year or if it’s a 10k or Half marathon you want to strive towards that’s great! Just make sure you have a goal or challenge to work towards. I know for me the clarity of knowing I’m getting ready for a marathon in 12 weeks has given me a focus and appetite to get stuck in that I would not have had otherwise 😊
If you would like to plan towards a Marathon this Autumn or any other distance I still have a small number of Online Coaching Spaces available so get in touch and we can put together a plan and work towards your goal! DM or email me @noelcarrollrunning@gmail.com
Thanks for reading folks 😊
